NaNoWriMo workshop 22 Oct @8am

In what’s become something of an annual tradition, I’ll be delivering a workshop on writing a successful NaNoWriMo novel at Milkwood tomorrow, 22 October at 8am SLT (that’s 4pm to any Brits out there). If you’re thinking about having a go this year, I’d love to see you.  I’ll be sharing some of the secrets I’ve learned over the years to getting 50,000 words done by 30 November.

Over the years, I’ve added a few musings and bits of pieces which budding NaNo novelists might find handy:

  • I’ve created a folder of free photographs that could be used as novel covers here.  That’s not going the help you get the novel written, of course; though I’m a big believer in high expectations being part of the secret of NaNo success – and one of those expectations should be to publish.  If you do that then you’re going to need a cover.
  • If that strikes you as useful advice, you might like to read my article from 2013 Five Tips on Writing a NaNoWriMo.  Don’t forget also to consult these wise words from Isaac Asimov on turning off that pesky ‘Inner Editor.’
  • And whatever you do, don’t be without my free Progress Tool, an Excel spread sheet with everything you need for NaNo stats.

I’ll also be opening up my building this year to NaNo novelists, where there’s a 1970s style office and lounge for you to write or just hang out in: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Varano/59/202/1010
