Liquidator

A fine, sunny day.
The leaves look good on the trees.
I’ve waited through the winter
to see just that. It is good
to see them again. It is good
to stand in this sun
with my comrades.
I see the tops of buildings.
I see washing hanging
from balconies.
People live here.
My people.
Families live here.
Families like mine.
They say that the end of the world
is just a few days away. Well
who could turn down an opportunity
to prevent that?

They tell us,
“You will die.”
Of course, I step forward. Well
who could turn down an opportunity
to be known as a hero,
to make his parents proud?
Soon, the whole of Europe
will know my name.
I mean,
how could it be
any other way?
