James Last (1929 – 2015)

The music of Hansi played a big part of my childhood and his 1971 LP, ‘Golden Memories’ remains my earliest musical memory and the best way for me to calm down when I’m stressed.  I’ve honoured him in my own small way through mentions in ‘My Avatars and I‘ and my upcoming novella, ‘SIM’.  It was with great sadness today that I heard of his passing.

But boy what a legacy he leaves behind him – literally hundreds of big band, happy music records.  My favourites, apart from ‘Golden Memories’ (which was actually a UK compilation record), are ‘James Last in Russia’, ‘Trumpet A Gogo 3’ and his Christmas recordings.  And, of course, who can forget the following?
