What the Huck? 
I still worry about Henry. How did someone like him end up in that dead end job selling electrical goods and spending all his spare time in a virtual world? You can understand why he agreed to be recruited to use his knowledge of Russian to infiltrate their newly developed metaverse. You need to understand that in ‘The Day Is Full Of Birds’ the Cold War still rages and the threat of nuclear attack is ever present. If all this wasn’t bad enough Henry remains obsessed with the woman he met as a student. Has he really met her virtual ghost? Is it any wonder his marriage is a disaster? Henry loves his little son though and in the end ….. oops mustn’t give any more away.Huckleberry Hax takes us into Henry’s world, his ‘real’ life, his ‘second’ one too and into his dreams of what might have been as well as his fears of what may yet come with his gentle and incisive writing. He leads us through love and loneliness, through politics and pain, through daily grind and soaring heights of imagination until we don’t know whether to laugh or cry. The only thing we do know is that we have to read on to the end, and even then we still worry about Henry. Zoe Parness
